Strange Sabreliner.

Post by Thermal »

I was wondering what the strange bulge underneath this Sabreliner is? It is owned by Lockheed Martin and all I could find was that it is certified as an experimental aircraft (which seems obvious)
But experimental for what? I assume it's for a military purpose since I saw some uniformed people aound it.

Saw it while I was taxiing into Goodyear Airflied near Phoenix. I know it's a sh#tty picture but making pictures and taxiing an aircraft at the same time is not one of my best qualities :wink:

If anyone could shed some light on this it would be much appreciated

Thanks

Maybe you can find more info here:
http://www.lockheedmartin.com/news/pres ... ulFli.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Or search for 'Sabreliner' at their site, good luck.

...but it isn't, if you read the Lockheed press release quoted in the message above yours! It's the suite that carries the EOTS (Electro Optical targeting System) for the F-35 Lightning II. It comprises FLIR and IRST (Infra Red Search and Track) systems and makes up for a totally passive sensor system according to the press release.

A very rare bird indeed and a very nice catch!
