South Eastern Backwaters - Bari, Bucharest and Thessaloniki

Post by Stubenfliege 2 »

Hi ya.

During a bussines trip I had some spare - and waiting time at airports, which I had used for spotting at these rather unusual places.

To start with Bari, which is a busy regional airport, whith pretty good opportunities for spotting. Unfortunately they land during my stay usualy from east. To come to an appropriate landing shots at this position, you need a car. So I stay close to the terminal.

A short intermediate landing at Bucharest enabled me, to make some "lucky shots" out of the bus

To reach finaly Thessaloniki Airport. Remarkly there were the russian and british "waves", which delivers aircrafts which are an rare sight for West European spotter:

And at last, the only military movement I have seen at LGTS.

Spotting oportunities are pretty good. You can place yourself at a sea dam close to the departure end of runway 34 and a undisturbed seat at the airport restaurant at the terminal. Outside the terminal it´s difficult, because of the inevitable presence of the police. All in all, it´s Greece and therefore advisable to be a little low profile while spotting.
