Mombasa Moi Airbase 5-7-2010 Home of the Tiger II

Post by Flanker27 »

While we are still sorting out our RIAT pics...

During landing at Moi International Airport some nice planes were caught the corner of my eye. During taxiing to the gate I had to put them on record through the window of course. What a beauties.. They were there also on the return leg, but from the public area there are no photo opportunities to the military ramp.
(Also taking pics is forbidden there, told by a local after taking some sunsetshots from the airport balcony..)
Only plane reasonable for pics at our stopover Hurghada, no MiGs outside as well, one Chinook on the runway end (flew right over it)

Very exotic! Any idea if the F-5s were based at Mombasa, or just there for deployment? I thought Laikipia was the only KAF fighter base..

Moi is an active base at least since 2006, I don't know if the fighters are based there, they were there at least for the week I was there.

Cool pics.

Maybe you should consider changing the title: the F-5E/F is called Tiger II, not Freedom Fighter (only the F-5A/B).
Not an inappropriate name for the location either

Not sure about that. But I was there a long time ago (in 1991) and even at that time the base was also full of operational F-5's.
