Yep, that is their (and our) fate: in the end we all turn grey  . Greek Herks are receiving this "brilliant" scheme during a heavy maintenance/modification programme. As the Greek budget is somewhat constrained at the moment, it might still take some time before all Herks will be dulled down like this. You might have also noticed that they took the opportunity to change the colours of the roundel from dark to light blue... party time ! :bday:

so this might be the first repainted C-130? Colors look exact the same as on the C-27J we get from time to time in LUX.

I noted 745 last may at Heraklion, Crete, already in this grey color scheme so the one above (743) is probably not the first one. By the way, I saw 741 on the same day in camo-colors, so they are for sure not painted in order of serial number.

Hello,

This is kind of weird. I was the captain of that flight...
A view from the cockpit (durint this specific flight - sorry about the quality, both were taken with the iphone crappy camera):

The gray camo was a long time requirement of the squadron. It has nothing to do with economics - it all boils down to suitability with the operational enviroment. For the Greek AF, this is mainly the Aegean sea (hence the gray). It turns out the single color gray is also cheaper than the previous one (Vietnam).

This bird bears the non-glossy gray - we are also experimenting with the medium to high glossy types (similar to the one the Swedish AF uses).

Also, all the gray ones carry updated avionics suites (by L3 Comms/SPAR Aerospace).

No, s/n 745 was the first one.
