Gilze-Rijen EHGR - Grizzly in the snow

Post by Hornet69 »

Goodmorning all,

yesterday afternoon, after it stopped snowing, I visited helitown Gilze-Rijen. Four choppers were flying local circuits. Two Cougars and two Chinooks. One Chinook (D666) came to play at the "slopes". The fresh snow and even some sunshine made it possible to shoot the following three pictures :D .

Very nice, Chinook in the snow! I'm hoping to photograph any Cougars or Chinooks in the snow this Tuesday (weather permitting...).
Any guesses about flying activity @ EHGR this coming week?

Leonard

I was thinking of the slopes on friday when I was at work and saw the sun comming after the snow.
Maybe in about a week or the next, when I'm free for two weeks.

Hi all,

thanks for the nice comments. I was lucky yesterday. Last year, winter 2009-2010, there was a lot of snow at Gilze-Rijen for a long time. Even the GRAS organized that time a spottersday. Unfortunately I was not be able to make time to shoot heli's in the snow last winter. I am still very happy with this one. A truly winter wonderland.

@Ben: maybe I see you at Gilze. My X-mas holidays are also then. Hopefully with more snow and some helo activity.
Any guesses about flying activity @ EHGR this coming week?
I expect normal but keep in mind the holiday X-mas season has started. Do not know if this has any effect on heli-movements this week.

Normal at Gilze means 2-3 Cougars; 2 Chinooks; 2-3 Apaches. And keep your fingers crossed that one or two of these helicopters are willing to visit the slopes at Gilze. Next to that from monday till thursday nightflying is scheduled. Could mean less flying activity during the day.

Upcoming days more snow is predicted. So I think still a lot of snow will be present at Gilze on tuesday. Enjoy your stay.

Grtz,

Edward.
