Manchester (MAN/EGCC) 20-12-2010

Post by 757Flyer »

Hello All!

On Monday December 20th, 2010 I made a spotting trip to Manchester together with fellow scramble members David van Woerkom (bendavid2) and Jeffrey Schäfer (jeffreyklm).
This was the plan:
- In the morning we would fly to Manchester with flight EZY1832 at 10.10am,
- and in the evening we would fly back to Amsterdam with flight EZY1835 departing at 5.50pm
The beginning of our trip was not quite 'peacefull' as I can say; I woke up at about 5.30am and then saw that our flight (EZY1832) was cancelled  !
We decided to go to Schiphol anyway, to see if we could get a refund or another flight at the EasyJet desk. Then I waited for the train to take me to the Rotterdam Central Station, but it had a delay of 45 minutes, so I arrived late for the Fyra to Schiphol. But fortunately the connecting train also had a significant delay. While we were in the Fyra, we discovered that they suddenly removed the word 'cancelled' from the schiphol website. So we arrived at Schiphol and yes, the flight wasn't cancelled!

So with a very good mood after all we started our trip, in Manchester it was sunny but veeery cold!
Here are the results:

Nice report! Snow, nice liveries and even more important some sun.. the best combination for a good trip!

Thanks for sharing!

@phkza: Manchester is indeed great for planespotting. There is a large parking lot with some platforms which give a nice overview of the taxiway and both runways. However, you have to pay a small entrance fee.. Until noon you'd better go to the other side of the airport due to sun.. although it isn't often sunny there I recommend that spot. I am not sure if there is public transport to get you there but the best you can do is hire a car and drive to the other side, park your car at the parking lot in front of a nice small hotel (not sure about the name with with some help from google maps you can find that out easily) and then walk in direction of the engines sound (there is not really a straight way to there thus you have to find your own way through the forest.) At the end you'll find a hill which gives a magnificent view of the first runway, the second runway and a large part of the apron!
