12-jun-2011: A day out in GLV-5

Post by Iwan Bogels »

Hi all,

Today I needed some time off from work, and as it was to be beautiful weather I decided to spend few hours in GLV-5. During the morning AH-64D Q-04 ("Bat71") came to cheer me up. The pilots spent about half an hour doing their exercises overhead the "heide", right next to the main sand area. That gave me many beautiful photo opportunities. Thanks for playing within reach of the camera guys !

In the afternoon AS532 S-454 ("Wildcat02") did a NDB-approach at Eindhoven before coming over to GLV-5 for thirty minutes. Unfortunately the crew decided to do a couple of "heide" landings at 1500 meter west of the main sand area. When I had moved about 2/3 of that distance they hopped over to "the village" for a couple of sand landings, and to another sandy spot outside the main sand area. This gave me more than my daily portion of exercise (yes, I know, I need it), but I would have preferred some nice photos instead. The only decent photo that I managed to get was the transit hop from one area to the other.

Jeroen and Choise, it was nice meeting you in GLV-5 !

Cheers,
Iwan
