Malaysia 2011, day 6, Butterworth

Love the Singaporean Herc and the wet S61 in particular, but all are very nice indeed!

Thanks for the nice comments. With the RF-5 I was velly happy. I have no idea how often it flies.

@ Hurricane. So it was you ;-). Were you with LMB because he has some nice pics. May-be I try sunday from the outside....
@ DJMikey. Alex Helicopter told me that rainpictures are great.... so I tried. Thanks Alex....
@ Sowlad. Sungai Besi(e) is the name of the museum airfield. But if you can stand the heat and you are patient it can be great from the outside. Als the police platform is near. We read about 14 serials or so. It is very close to Kuala Lumpur Sentral station. About 3 euro by taxi.
@ PD uit B. Gug hat tog mee moetuh goan.

Yesterday was an ok day again. The MiG's, Sea Kings, F-18's, F-5's (no RF) a Hawk and a Herk flew. I went for the F-5F which I failed to get a few times..... Some people called the police I think because a few times they passed when I was driving around (on my scooter).

If you where at the kampong (local neighbourhood) just next to the highway u'r fine with polis; just smile and wave :wink:
The otherside of the airport, with view over the airbase, is a wealthier area and they are a lot less understanding towards you and are much more quicker with taking action towards u're presence.

Hi all,

I have another question about the museum at Sungai Besi Air Base.
In 2012 I did not make it there.
We will be in Kuala Lumpur this august again.
Is it allowed to take pictures at the museum?
And are you allowed to take pics off the operational aircraft?

It's no problem to take photos at the museum however the residents are not pleased if you try to shoot the operational helicopters or Police airplanes. However, with some creative moments you can get more then you wished for :wink:

Correct ; no problem within the museum and if you are lucky the operational stuff come in nicely in front of you. But just be a little cautious : http://www.airfighters.com/photosearch. ... rent&lim=3

When I visited in 2011 I didn't know that I had to be cautious, 'cause I had see so many pics by others taken there. Personnel spotted me taking pics of the operation helo's. They put a man on me for the rest of my visit to the museum...following my every step on the museum terrain.

So caution is advised. Put yourself just behind one of the preserved aircraft outside and then take pics of landing helicopters.

I visited twice in april 2012. The first time was on a friday, and as I already expected the museum was closed. The available staff members opened the museum just for me because otherwise I would have come for nothing :D. I had the museum to myself and could also take pics of operational helo's. I returned the monday after (to try to catch more operational stuff) and also had no problems. There wasn't any personnel who walked the museum grounds. So I guess, be careful but if there aren't any visitors or personnel just go for it.

Word of advice: try to be there as early as possible since light conditions tend to be unfavourable after 10-11am.
