Swiss F/A-18 cable barrier landing

Post by Iwan Bogels »

Hi guys,

Last week Frank, Marcel and me were present at Payerne when a F/A-18 Hornet made a cable barrier landing. Below you will find three sequential shots of the event. Fortunately it was no emergency landing, but a planned wire trap as part of the pilot conversion training. The next day two more of these traps were made.

Cheers,
Iwan

Image
1. A long trail of sparks behind the Hornet, as the hook scratches the tarmac

Image
2. The hook catches the wire and the Hornets starts its rapid deceleration

Image
3. The cable pulled out for a few hundred feet and the Hornet has come to a full stop
Fox2 - for everything about low flying in Wales........and more !!
