Linköping airshow, Sweden

Post by L.M.B. »

Hi all,

On our way back home from Orland (NTM) Stipje, the D. brothers and I made a quick stop at the airshow. Later in the afternoon, the weather cleared up after a windy and wet morning, but time did not permit us to benefit. Here is a small impression from my side, seen in the morning and early afternoon:

I hope to see some pics from those who spend the whole weekend there!

That's a quite "classic" shot of the Saab J-29 Tunnan. 8)

Very nice pictures :-)
If I may ask, how did you succeed in taking the picture inside the Sk60 hangar and the Hkp4? ;-)

I guess the SK60 photo was taken through the window, and we asked an SK60 instructor if we were allowed to take some pictures on the platform. "Coincidentally", we passed the Hkp-4 hangar.

Michel N. came with the right answer and is still in the running for the microwave! :D

Standing left of the Hkp4 two others were stored as well. As I don't do numbers, I would like to refer to the logs I expect to appear soon somewhere.

Some nice and "unusual" shots form the show you got there Lucien! P.M. and me just got home tonight, haven't had time for editing yet. We've been looking around for you, now I understand why we did not run into you.... :)

Despite the not so very summer-like weather :? , it was a great weekend! Well-organised show, and relaxed attitude towards the public. Staying late was no problem. Neither was going, looking and shooting anywhere not fenced-off.
And certainly kudos to the Swedes for their policy of "That type is retired? Let's fly it!". :respect:

It was only my second time to Sweden, 28 years after catching an F28 to Ronneby with Scramble...
While the flying retired types of aircraft were my main goal for the show, I returned with a huge load of pleasing shots and a nice bag of numbers. Speaking of those, good catch on the Hkp-3s, Lucien & co! And Elmer, I like the panning there.

My contribution consists of the types that appeal most to me, plus a few interesting scenes. It's still quite a load, I hope you don't mind.

1. Saturday morning, blue skies.
Image

2. Still able to see what I saw in 1984!
Image

3.
Image

4. The Finnish completing their morning display.
Image

5. SAAB B17, bit like a Swedish Avenger.
Image

6. Flying Tunnan! And what a sound.
Image

7.
Image

8. This scene could be fifty years old by the looks of it.
Image

9. The Lansen is a big fighter.
Image

10.
Image

11. The near-unearthly Draken!
Image

12.
Image

13.
Image

14. There may be one more than you think here.
Image

15. Good-lookin' helo.
Image

16. Obviously a star: the enigmatic Viggen.
Image

17. Oh YES.
Image

18.
Image

19. It pays to stay late, in this case for some exquisite vintage action.
Image

20. But eventually all have to go home. I found this scene of presumably a father and his daughter somewhat touching.

Wow Erik, stunning stuff. And indeed the last one gives a nice finish to the set.

Great shots gentlemen!

Here are some of mine, Too bad about the weather on Sunday morning, and we had to leave early because of the long drive home. Still, a lot of numbers and some decent photo's too!

For some of us the real highlight of the show. Too bad the Tp.86 was tucked away in a corner, but at least I finally got to see it!

Thai Gripens are not all that common:

Five generations of fighter aircraft (and a trainer) in the air, what a sight! I don't know of many countries which can pull this off...

By now most of the Swedish helicopter fleet has been modernized. Here's a Hkp.14:

And Hkp.16:

South African Gripens aren't that common either:

A quick run through the museum for the display of the shot down Swedish Dakota:

More nostalgia:

Finally, on our way back to the car, we witnessed the Sk.60 platform being emptied again:
