US trip, day 12. Last day. New Jersey (pics)

Post by stipjes »

Yesterday we flew from Amsterdam to Las Vegas via Philidelphia and today we started our US trip at Nellis. I will try to put some pics every day. Today was a nice day. The a/c take off around 13.00 and come back around 16.00. In the evening there is a lot of activity too.
A nice surprise was the delivery of two F-35's to Nellis. In the morning only 4 a/c flew a mission so be prepared!

Nice! :D

Here are a few more.

Can't remember a day I made three new B-2's (in fact I never did until today)...

Image

The wind was challenging today, so were (as often is) the light conditions.

Image

The two F-35's arriving were accompanied by a Lockheed-Martin company F-16 (yes, the twilight had already set in):

Re: US trip, day 2, Cloudy Nellis

Today we had a cloudy day @ Nellis. The good news was that the MC-12W came in and that the Prowler came in on the right runway. The B-2 came in after sunset. Tomorrow Yuma.

US trip, day 4 (09-03-13), Yuma Air Show (pics)

Post by stipjes »

This morning we got up early to photograph the static a/c that came in yesterday after we visited the base. There was a relaxed atmosphere and we were even allowed to hotograph some Harriers in a hangar and under the sheds. The highlight was the Army UH-1. I think it is one of the last ones flying for the USAr. It came from Languna AAF.

US trip, day 4,5 and 6 (mostly W&R in CA) (pics)

Post by stipjes »

During the last days (10 till 12th march) we drove around southern California. Today we visited 17 places with "aircraft". We saw wrecks, preserved and operational aircraft. Here is a small impression after a quick photoshop.

10-03-13
Ocitello was great with the two B-29's. We also saw all the F-86's.
Image
At Gillespie we saw a lot of Bucker Aircraft;
Image
Further to the west is a big hangar with all sorts of a/c (HU-16, A-1E, Catalina, L-19, T-28 etc.);
Image
The museum holds some nice a/c incl this Tomcat;
Image

11-03-13
The next day we went to San Diego. The IAP;
Image
USS Midway (a bit too blue-ish Skyhawk);
Image
Bilboa;
Image

12-03-13
Long Beach, a Catalina Flying Boats Dakota;
Image
The newest C-17;
Image
LA Science Museum;
Image
Van Nuys;
Image
The last airfield we visited today was Whiteman with a lot of firedep helicopters;
Image

Tomorrow we have another round like this. After that it is time for some noise again at Nellis.

US trip, day 7. From an MQ-1 to a Dutch T-33 (pics)

Post by stipjes »

Today was another "we visit a lot of places" day with some operational a/c. The first we saw flying was a MQ-1 Predator at former George AFB;
Image

A special (in my military spotters eyes) B.747 took off from Victorville;
Image

Heaven in El Mirage (including a Belgium Pembroke);
Image

A North Island Clipper was making touch & goes at Palmdale;
Image

The museum at Lancaster is very very slowly expanding. I did not see this H-19 before;
Image

The highlight of the day, an ex KLu T-33 in a garden in Eastern Lancaster (the M-49);
Image

Mojave was nice as always;
Image

One of the last preserved a/c today was the B-52 at Edwards North gate;
Image

We are quite fed up with old rusty stuff by now. Tomorrow we will see active violent hardware again at Nellis!
