Larnaca (LCLK/LCA) - 2009

Spotting in Cyprus - Larnaca International Airport

Who can tell my how the spotting possibilities at Larnaca are? I will visit this airport next monday and tuesday.

I found on scramble, some information about the Police helicopters Bell 412 (CP-2 / CP-4) and Islander (CP-1) that are stationed here, but who can tell me if it's possible to take any pictures around the airport. Is there a map (or layout) available with fotospot's on it, just like their is in the where to go section of scramble? The only thing I know right now is that you can take landing shots from "MC Kenzie Beach" wich is situated next to the runway. But how do the authorities react when you are pointing your camera in the direction of the airfield.

Every help or experience is welcome.

greetings Ralph

Hi Kmarrie,

I visited Cyprus in March, and could see the whole police force on the airfield. The police platform is next to the big airline platform, next to the fence. (on google earth, you see two small tarmacs next to the big one full with planes. The small tarmac situated most to the north is the police tarmac) coordinates 34°53'06.80''N 33°37'40.93''O. I don't know if it is possible to take pictures from outside, but close to the tarmac is a big parking lot, So worth investigating.

Hi Kmarrie,

ive been at LCA multiple times and have had no encounters with authorities; things is that there always are locals present at the McK-beach. Just for your info: there's no use pointing your camara to the airport as shots into that direction are obstructed by trees and other dump. Furthermore there is a great distance to the platforms and pictures show the aircraft mostly from behind - so poor quality pics (in my opinion)

Anyway, i took many pics while aircraft were landing, spent many days at McK-beach and never had had any problems. Just make sure you have your ID with you and explain calmly what you're doing if contacted by police.

I have no idea about the possibillities at the other end of the runway - sorry fot that. But why not contact a local spotter via airliners.net? They should be able to give latest information!

Have fun at LCA!

Regards, Roger
