According to [1] flying should be back to 'normal'... Can anyone confirm an increase in flying activities?

Cheers,
g.

I'll be camping relatively close to Aviano from Monday 12th untill Friday 23rd of August. I have only been able to negotiate one day of plane spotting. Could anyone recommend me which day to go for maximum activity or even some rare visitors?

Thanks a lot in advance, and see you guys along the fence,
Marcel

Hi Marcel,

Try to negotiate two mornings if possible  as Aviano has runway 22 or 23 (i am not 100% sure) and flying 90% from the west (landing) after 1300 it has no use to be in Aviano during summer (my opinion) In the morning however you can take excellent pictures during departure. Behind the gas station (farmers land but accessible) you can make nice take off shots with banking F-16's.....you must have seen them here on the board sometime...
The landing at the other side speaks for it selves....
But be in time operations hours are not like in Holland.....I have seen them return around 0830 local once but also only flying in the evening....

Goodluck,
Marco

Just to clarify (as flying from the west and runway 22 or 23 are not compatible): most of the time Aviano has runway 05 in use.

99% The Runway in use and the 05. In summer it well illustrates From 8.00 to 13. Then in the Sun and the tail. But if you want, you can go from the Other Side of the track, with mountains behind

Thanks guys, usefull information, I'll make sure to get there early. Probably start behand the gasstation for some take off action, then move to the other side for landing shots.

Still looking for advice on which day to go. Any visitors planned for the next three weeks that are already known? And which day has the most F-16 activity?

Actually from monday to thursday the flying activity starts at 8 and ends after sunset. Friday only in the morning.
But every week starts in a different way.
Aviano visitors are few and usually unespected.

Good luck!
