Spotting tips for Nairobi/Kenya??

Post by PH-AVR »

Hi All,
I plan to visit Nairobi later this week and hope to do some spotting at both international airport and the domestic (Wilson) airport. Any advise on Wilson airport? I read that last year some British spotters were arrested there despite having permits etc. so guess this seems to be tricky. The restaurant @ the Wilson Aeroclub used to be a good place but understand that this was recently closed (if this link is correct https://www.facebook.com/CreativeKitchenCo ).
Spotting from the international airport will be limited to views from terminal area. I only know the old terminal from before it burned down a few years ago. Any advise on the new terminal?
thanks!
Anton

I think it is not allowed and not a good idea around NBO airport. Near the domestic terminal a quick picture through a fence is not the problem. While boarding a plane on the ramp also no problem. At Wilson airport there is a restaurant with a garden where photography is ok through holes in the fence. Nice airport for 1/2 days. Ask at any hangar or company for ramp access, you might be lucky?

The spotters arrested in Kenya earlier this year were posting a running commentry of what they were seeing on the so-called social media. Possibly not the wisest thing to do.

Spotting in Kenya can only be described as high-risk.
