They had a experienced pilot.
CHESLEY B. "SULLY" SULLENBERGER, III, the pilot who saved 115
passengers by his skillful water landing in New York was a former USAF
Phantom pilot.

Extract from his Bio:-

U.S. AIR FORCE 1973 to 1980
F-4 PILOT
Overview: Flight Leader and Training Officer with experience in
Europe, Pacific and at Nellis AFB, serving as Blue Force Mission
Commander in Red Flag Exercises.

U.S. Coast Guard video of the actual plane crash

approx. 2 minutes of elapsed time from the surveillance video you will see the plane ditching into the Hudson river.

edit: for the second video you can't miss the concorde...

Have to say how surprised I am to see the plane still in one piece ... considering the impact on the water.

Is all the damage a result of the landing on the water, or is it the riversoil that did this kind of damage ???

Maybe also damage due to the riverboats, holding the aircraft?
