Is there any news on the status of the pilot(s)? The article makes no mention of it.

It was part of a flight of two and flew into the mountain. Not much chance to survive such a crash, it takes time to eject. And as the pilots are reported as "missed", you can guess the rest.
R.I.P.

This is indeed the second dual F/A-18D that flew into a mountain in Switserland, no singles lost yet.

"Live ticker" at http://www.blick.ch/news/schweiz/zentra ... 87110.html now.

Nothing confirmed about both crew. This does not bode well... :(

Accident investigators have located the flight data recorder from a Swiss air force Boeing F/A-18D which crashed into a mountainside on 23 October, as efforts to recover its second crew member continue.

The body of one pilot has now been retrieved, the nation’s defence ministry says, with recovery efforts having been hampered by difficult terrain at the accident site.
The flight data recorder is expected to be removed for analysis “during the course of the day”, it adds.

obituary notice - Stiwi

Fliegerstaffel 11
Tragically we have to inform you that yesterday one of our dear fellow squadron members has not returned from his mission!
We have to mourn for our friend
"Stiwi"
and we miss him in our Tiger Community.
Nature called him back after a very short flight out of our Airbase Meiringen.
Despite their best efforts, he and his passenger were unable
to return in bad weather conditions.
The NATO Tiger wingman fortunately recovered safely back to the airfield.
May Stiwi rest in peace...
Möge Stiwi in Frieden ruhen...

old demo pilot.
