Two people were injured when a small airplane they were in crashed on Fort Carson's Butts Army Airfield Wednesday.

Only two crew members were on board the plane, a DA20, and were taken to Memorial Hospital, where they are in good condition, Fort Carson officials said.

The two injured crew members were on a routine training mission out of Pueblo as part of Air Force's initial flight screening program when their plane crashed.

The aircraft falls under the Air Force Academy-based 306th Flying Training Group at the Air Force Academy, which oversees the initial flight training program at the Pueblo Airport. The training program is the first step in a long ladder to earn an Air Force pilot's wings.

Doss Aviation of Colorado Springs runs the program under a 10-year, $200 million contract, the Air Force said.

Officials at the group said the crash, which involved a civilian contract plane, will be investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board with support from the Air Force and the Army.
