Post by FredL »

Defense strategic report by Belgian defense minister stated that Coxydes AFB should close its doors before 2030.
The rescue helicopters now at this site would relocate to Ostende airport.

its way to early to say if Koksijde is closing, theyve been talking about it since the 80's and nothing ever happened.
its best to wait until an official statement is released and not listen to gossip.

In late June, the government validated the strategic vision of defense. This provides for the reduction of military personnel from 32 000 to 25 000 members (full time equivalents) in 2030, resulting in its share of barracks closures, internal reorganizations and mergers of units.

The Defense Minister, Steven Vandeput (N-VA), made a proposal in this regard to the government.

This master plan (since that's his name) is based on the preparatory work of the General Staff of the army carried out taking into account geographical and demographic balance. Reportedly, none of the major bases of the army closed its doors, except those of Koksijde and Tielen.

The idea of creating an Air museum in Koksijde by sending them the collections of the Army Museum is the "blah", provides a record of the connoisseur.

The other big closing expected in the North would be one of the neighborhood Tielen which is based on the 3rd Parachute Battalion. Several hundred soldiers are concerned.

The logistics center of Ypres, the orchestra of the Air Force in Berlare or the control center for military air traffic Semmerzake also will close.

About Semmerzake, the idea would be to entrust the task to Belgocontrol, already in charge of civil air traffic.
The Belgian government still has to decide on this all.
