Isreal confirms one of its F-35 super jets grounded due to a collision with two Storks, strange as it has passed its bird strike certification! they say it will be back flying within days! Meanwhile, the Syrian Defence Force are saying they have launched a S-200 Russian built missiles to defend a anti-aircraft battery and hit one of the Israeli warplanes carrying out the cross-border attack, the battery was bombed and is also now out of action.
Interesting development for a $100 million dollar aircraft, either way!

I've never heard of a bird strike certification, but I assume it doesn't mean that it will never hit a bird.

So, the bird strike happened two weeks before the SA-5 incident if the Israeli's are telling the truth. Apart from that it's not very likely the F-35 has performed a mission over enemy territory without IOC status.

I would rate the chances of a Syrian SA-5 (S-200) successfully hitting a modern IDF fighter (e.g. F-16I or F-15I) as extremely low.
The SA-5 is an aging system that was designed as a long range SAM system against enemy bombers (e.g. B-52s), can be defeated with high-G turning manoeuvres and is susceptible to chaff and ECM, in particular as the SA-5 is a SARH system - meaning its missiles do not have self guidance capabilities. (Breaking the lock of the Square Pair radar means the missile will go stupid).

The Syrian government has made repeated claims of successfully shooting down IDF aircraft, despite the actual IDF inventory remaining exactly the same.

Unfortunately the IAF has had a worse ratio recently against our feathered neighbors than the local heavy metal. I wonder how much damage to the RAM would be caused by a 9kg Stork at 600 knots...and where we find a local artisan to cure it!

I agree with the Isreali colonel Nri Irkoni, who's opinion is that we know bird migration routes, they have happened for millennia, training on a $110 million aircraft, really in that area!
