It is quite irritating actually... we know it is not true but still are triggered to find arguments why it isn't. :-)

Don't take it too hard.... it's a nice bit of brain-teasing, in the process many readers learn some facts (eg. I didn't know about the F-4EJ's not being able te refuel), and the ones who believe(d) it seem to be quite convinced by now, or at least in serious doubt as they don't reply a lot anymore....

I was having a second look at the picture in the magazine, and if you look at the sun/shade, it's quite clear they've been fiddling around with it, though I must admit I've seen worse...

Just one more; Donny Chan posted interesting thoughts on the Japanese text here:

Just one more; why include the item in the Schinderhannes once and not in all base booklets, airshow programs, etc.?

Regards,
Stefan
To sum it up, the Japanese texts look suspicially, wording-wise, to a ragtag collection of photo captions to me.
Case closed, I would say.
Now if one would like to see some real Japanese Phantoms, just go to Japan 8)

The fiddling is quite obvious really. The German Phantom in the background (left fuselage side) is in shadow. The crewchiefs with their backs towards the same direction are in sunshine.

goodmorning,
do not share that opinion. you want to see that hans. But in my opinion the sade on the german f-4 is in front of it. Yes it will be a nice discussion. but just be patience. there will be evidence in the future. so in my opnion and I have enough people who witnessed the f-4's (sadly without photo evidence) while working overthere.

...sigh... It's a prank, and all the witnesses you will find are probably part of the prank, reeaally enjoying themselves! Good luck!

And this should not come as a surprise. Anyone who read about Japan and the Japanese, let alone have visited Japan, would have seen right through it.
Nice joke though. Who said the Germans don´t have a sense of humor?
