Official colour codes RAF Phantoms and Buccaneers

Post by Schffrs »

Hi all,

I still have two pretty old model kits waiting to be built, and it looks like I get the opportunity in the near future. They are from the well-known Matchbox series from 1974-1976 (note price on the Phantom-box!):

In order to paint them as correctly as possible, I'm looking for the official F.S.-codes for the top and bottom side tactical colour scheme. Further, I would really appreciate any information on available decal sets, as I would like to make the Phantom a Wildenrath-based one. Anyone?

Thanks in advance,
Rob

The RAF never used FS colours, but BS colours (British Standard). The Post WW II camo was made up of:
Dark Sea Green, BS641
Dark Sea Grey, BS638
Light Aircraft Grey, BS627 (bottom)

You can find these in Humbrol colours as 163 (BS641), 164 (BS638) and 166 (BS627), or with Gunze Sangyo as H330 (BS641), H331 (BS638) and H332 (BS627).
Others might have these as well, but I don´t have references on those.

And as for the decals: the German company AirDoc has two sets for RAF Germany-Phantoms: One with squadron markings for ALL RAFG-Phantom Sqns in grey/green AND Air Defence grey schemes, and one with all necessary stencils and other markings.
As for the Buccaneer, Model Alliance and Modeldecal have sets for those as well so you can build Laarbruch-based Buccs as well..
For availability check the well-known websites of our two dutch aviation stores (Flash/LHS) or Hannants in the UK.
