Runway 27R/L usage Heathrow

Post by Flyboeing »

When there is westernly wind, in the morning both runway 25s are in use (between 6 and 7).
Is there any pattern in the arrivals? That some airlines use only the 27L and others the 27R?

The only pattern at LHR I know of is that they switch runway-usage around 15.00, for example landing on 27L in the morning switches to takeoff on 27L in the afternoon

AFAIK and experienced, this has been changed for some years already. Aircraft bound for T4 land at the southern runway, also if it is the departure runway at the time. Tests have shown it is more disruptive to stop departures for aircraft crossing the runway, then to allow inbound traffic at the outbound runway.

Thank you both for your answers.

The runway change around 15:00 I know of. In the morning both runways are in use, around 15:00 the 27R/L combination changes. 27L is Always (when I was at LHR) in use between 07:00 and 15:00. After 15:00 runway 27R was in use for landing. When runway 09L/R is in use, 09L is always for landing (sometimes there are some aircraft landing on the 09R....). 09R is the departure runway when 09L is in use.

Here is a link to the official Heathrow Airport website where you can find the true story about the runway alternation:

There is even a schedule for each week, where you can read which rwy starts as landing rwy each day of that week
