Rostock-Laage (ETNL/RLG) - 2009 MIL

Post by Polleke_NL »

Planning on visiting Laage next Thursday, Nov.26.
Does anyone happen to have info on NOTAM's, expected flying actvities, etc.?

Can anyone also tell me if any of the preserved aircraft that are said to be on base, are visible from the outside? If so, from where?

Thanks in advance !

According NOTAMs just go to https://www.notams.jcs.mil/dinsQueryWeb/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and enter the ICAO code of Laage.

Hi all,

Well Polleke and I decided to give it a try anyway, even with the bad weather forecasts!

Arriving a little too late for the morning show, the Typhoons luckily flew again in the afternoon. A C-160 making some touch and goes, the arrival of a Challenger and two flying Heuys completed the day! Luckily we had only a few drops of rain on Laage and the sun broke through at many occasions giving excellent lighting for photography.

EF-2000T 30+27, 30+42 JG 73

UH-1D 70+81 LTG 63
C-160D 50+58 LTG 63
CL-601 12+06 FBS

In the big hangaar, seven more Typhoons could be seen!

Will post some pictures soon! You need 300mm for a Typhoon on the runway, shot from the spottershill near the terminal. These days the northern taxiway is closed, so most traffic will taxi over the southern taxiway (near the hill) and you will need much less. 50 - 100 will do! With sun in the back (if weather permits offcourse)
The SAR helo is parked on a small ramp near the entrance to the airport and you can picture this bird with a 50+ lens.

Just practical question. Is it a long drive? (yes I know I can see distances on googlemaps or so, but still)......

Would love to go there once...

the drive from EHAM is 6 hours and 6 minutes according to TomTom, it however took us some 7 hours to get there, meanly due to the numerous "bau anlagen" on the Autobahn, mainly between Bremen and Hamburg, return trip to little over 6 hours and 15 minutes.
Pretty straightforward drive, autobahn up till 6 kms from the airport, just follow the terminal as this is the only suitable location that can be found.

Hi all,

Thursday 29th i visited the Laage Rostock fliegerhorst.
I drove 1000km to make this possible but i was worth it...
The spottershill and the new terminal have excellent photo capacities.
The flying is good an there are plenty visitors..
I only watched the first two waves, the thrid wave i returned home already...
first wave:
Eurofighters: 30+49, 30+52, 30+55, 30+12, 30+09, 31+18 and 31+19
Second wave:
Eurofighters: 30+47, 30+49, 30+51, 31+17, 31+20, 31+22 and duals: 30+24, 30+42
The 31+22 was brand new and was delivered to Laage on wednesday...

Visitors:
A310: 10+26
Challenger 12+03
Tornado: 46+14 +2 from AG51
F4F: 37+75 JG71

Yes a long drive (still a lot of baustelle between Oldenburg and Hamburg) and yes maybe a boring plane but this plane is the luftwaffes future
