Wittmund (ETNT) - 2012 MIL

Post by Richard de Florennes »

noted between 07.55 and 14.15 hours local time: six different Phantoms - not bad regarding the fact that JG 71 currently has six Phantoms deployed aways for the Baltic air policing mission ...

Six spooks are normal. It has nothing to do that another six are deployed. Do not expect Wittmund will be active with 10 to 12 spooks when those six deployed aircraft are back.

These NOTAMS from the 24th should be read as follows:
- no flying before 14.00 hrs and after 22.00 hrs local time each day (except Friday)
- for spotting this means that you can expect flying activity in the afternoon and in the evening (so in the dark) and nothing in the morning (except Friday)

Be aware of risky weather conditions (low clouds/mist/fog) expected at least in Northern Germany especially during the first half of the week, which MIGHT reduce flying activity ...

Hope this helps ...

The above NOTAM is still current at the moment. So no flying before 14.00 local on Thursday. For friday, flying could be expected between 08.00 and 12.00 local.

Just a reminder. From March 5th until April 2nd JG71 will be deployed to Iceland for air policing duties (background info here). I believe four more Phantoms are still deployed to Lithuania, so just do some maths and you can expect little activity at Wittmund during this period..

Is "Good Friday" (Friday before Easter, 6 April 2012) a regular flying day at Wittmund :?: (and Germany, for that matter).
I checked the Wittmund threads of 2010 and 2011, but couldn't find a definitive answer. Doing a quick search via Google, I found that it is a official 'holiday' in Germany...

Holland will be one of the very few exceptions where you might encounter operational military action on Good Friday. In most other countries it is a public holiday (same as a Sunday), with no flying activity at all.

Good day there!

I've heard there will be a spottersday in Wittmund coming june.
I am out of the region for a while, is there any news about this day?
Anybody has some info on when/where to register to participate?

Thanks,
Jos.
