Tribute to the Thunderstreak and Thunderflash

Post by bingo20 »

Perhaps a bit far fetched for our viewers ,who can not be considered as technicians , Mickey ,but anyway , thanks for your explanation!
To illustrate your exposee ,another picture of a Thunderstreak , being towed away!

Oh,yes, please confine yourselves to posting pictures of the Republic F-84F Thunderstreak and/or Republic RF-84F Thunderflash , because that is what this thread is about . It is also a good thing to remind you that the pictures you post must be copyrighted by yourselves! Thank you!

Wow, nice! Is that hangar C in the background, i.o.w. is this photo taken in the old dispersal area west of the Hawk-battery hill?

Best regards,

I did post some in this thread :) . Volkel phased-out their Streaks in 1966 though, when 312 converted to the F-104G. Most pictures you'll see here are from spotters, taken in the late 1960s, mostly at Eindhoven. Not many people were spotting when Streaks were active at Volkel and their role meant taking pictures on-base by KLu-people was frowned upon, to put it mildly.

Volkel-pics are welcome though, there must be more out there, from open days and family days.

Very interesting topic with many nice and unique photo's !

Just a request: I'm in progress to build a KLu F-84F (Revell 1/48 ). Is there anybody who has a photo of KLu F-84F P-205? No matter in what kind of duty. This Streak was many years in use as gateguard at the LIMOS Nijmegen. As I only built model-aicraft seen by myself, the "problem" is that I only have a b/w photo of it...

MTIA and keep on posting !

Wow, that whole area was broken up just a few years ago! I visited the
area just after it was de-owned by the KLu and right before they started
the demolition. Incredible to walk around through that area, quite a few
dispersals over there, hangar C, engine run-up building, a very old
(German) runway threshold, facilitybuildings, the whole sha-bang. Plus
taxitracks and dispersals that I didn't even know existed, behind 'De Dijk'
flightline! I still regret not taking the "FOD gevaar" sign at the threshold of
the old Germany runway running between the battery-hill and hangar C.
It's simply is a damn shame everything is gone now, would have made a
great location for an aviation museum (Well, Piet Smedts is too late
now... ).

Best regards and thanks for sharing your photos!
