Hi,
looking at googlemaps I see a lot of ex Swedish AF fighters preserved at Halmstad airfield.
I know that the Swedish Af has a school or something overhere but my question is can I see this aircraft from outside the field?
Or is it possible to take some pics?
How about security in Sweden?
Grtz Rene
The instructional aircraft on the NE side of the airfield can be seen from the fence at 56 41 38 N, 12 49 36 E.
Furthermore there is a Lansen preserved, which is easy to miss (we did the first time, and had to go back to the airbase the next day....). It is preserved at 56 41 12 N, 12 50 14 E and can be seen from the main road east of it (Flottiljvagan).
Finally from the civil side you can look at the military platforms and hangars, so you might get lucky to see some operational aircraft (we had two Bo.105's coming in) or instructional inside the hangars if those are open.
There is/was also a scrapping area in the SE of the airfield, with many many Viggens when we were there, but I can't find those on Google Earth. I presume all are gone by now.
Oh, by the way, don't forget the exercise area just north of the airfield, where some more wrecks can be found. If i'm right the entrance is at 56 43 41.5 N, 12 49 40 E. We walked up the path and got to the aircraft without problems, but I seem to remember this was done in a weekend.
Have fun!
