Laarbruch Spotters help wanted

Post by RAFG »

Hi There!

I am new to scramble and I work on a research for Laarbruchs history!

I need to know when the Tornados of XV and 16 Sqn left for the gulf and maybe the logs!
And when they came back!
Any logs for leaving for Red Flag, Goose Bay, Deci, Squadron exchanges... from Bucc, Phantom, Jaguar and Harrier (especially for operation Warden/Deny Flight) are also welcome!
If anyone has old photos that are not posted yet, it would be nice to see them in this topic!

With that much netherlands spotters near the border I hope someone can help me!

Thanks in advance!
greetings from near Weeze

Good afternoon,

I did some research in my archive and have the first info to start with.

Tornado GR1 in pink-desert deployments to Tabuk + Dahran/Saudi Arabia and Muharraq/Bahrain
19 Sep 1990 dep 6x Tornado GR1/GR1A
28 Sep 1990 dep 8x Tornado GR1/GR1A
* = GR1A, # = GR1T

2sq > * ZA370/A,ZA371/C,ZA372/E,ZA373/H,ZA397/O,ZA398/S,ZA400/T,ZA404/W
15sq > ZA447/EA,ZA472/EE,ZA446/EF,ZA453/EG,ZA455/EJ,ZA392/EK(w/o 17-1-91),ZA459/EL,ZA462/EM,ZA471/ER(E),
ZA410/EX#
16sq > ZA475/FC,ZA460/FD,ZA492/FE,ZA467/FF(w/o 2-1-91),ZA367/FF,ZA466/FH(w/o 18-10-90), ZA465/FK,ZA470/FL,ZA473/FM,ZD812/(FV)#
20sq > ZA399/GA(G),ZA456/GB(M),ZA491/GC(N),ZA469/GD(I),ZA396/GE(w/o18-1-91), ZA490/GG,ZA452/GK,ZA463/GL(Q),ZA411/GY#,ZA365/GZ#

Tornados based at Muharraq did only wear a single code- marked during their deployement.
Some Tornados departed at the end of 1990- early 1991 to replace some Brüggen-Tornados or the crashed ones....

Rotations.
From 31-7-1990 until 9-8-1990 4 Mirage F1CGs from 334Mira/114 PM rotate with 2sq Tornado GR1As.
114,118,122,129 were the deployed aircraft, supported by 2 C-130Hs, 749 and 752.

More to follow....
kind regards,

Maurits

Hi, you might be interested in some photos I took whilst at Laarbruch. If you google Valley Aviation Society, then Galleries - album list - page 2 - Hywel Evans - Laarbruch 1988-90 you'll find 56 photos taken there. I was serving as a pilot on 16 Sqn, hence the 'inside' shots. Hope they are of some use. They also tie in with the post above by Maurits.
