Breaking news from here is the arrival of ther next AV-8B UDP Squadron on Thursday 15th July.The lucky unit this time is the east coast based VMA-542 from MCAS Cherry Point,NC.

During Friendship Day 2010 there were 2 helo's. So I guess the detachment at Iwakuni is only 2 helo's.

VMFA(AW)-224 arrived August 5th to relieve VFA-94 of UDP duty. Next to arrive is VMFA(AW)-225 to take over from VMFA(AW)-121. The "Vikings" of -225 are now at Guam for exercise Valiant Shield 2010. Source: www.marines.mil.

Iwakuni news,

VMFA(AW)-224 Bengals will transition to F-35B in FY14 at MCAS Beaufort,SC and then transfer to MCAS Iwakuni to be permanantly based in FY17.

In FY18 VMFA(AW)-242 Bats will re-locate to MCAS Miramar,CA and transition to F-35B.
