Spotting tips for NYC

Post by phkza »

Hi guys,

I'm going to New York City for a couple of days. Any tips for the aviation enthusiast?

I guess I'll be taking some pictures from the terminal at Newark (where I'll be flying to), but does anyone have suggestions on where to go? Perhaps LGA, JFK or heliports?

Thanks in advance!

There are two heliports (that I know of):
Downtown Manhattan Heliport ( 40°42'3.56"N 74° 0'31.53"W )
30th Street Heliport ( 40°45'17.17"N 74° 0'25.63"W )

The second one is only a few blocks south of the USS Intrepid which was recently reopened.

I know little of spotting at the airports, only that JFK is mostly rubbish airside and Newark is a little heaven. Big windows and a terminal that has great views on the ramps and platforms.

Take a look to the NYCAviation website

http://www.nycaviation.com/

On the Tools section there are spotting guides to the JFK,LGA and EWR.

Enjoy NY

Thanks for the tips guys. I guess I'll try my luck at EWR. I'll most likely skip the USS Intrepid, as there doesn't seem much of interest there (certainly not for almost USD 20). Let's board that NWA A330 (before it's too late and we'll be a victim of DL's old 767's...) and fly off!
