Hallo,

Vrijdag ga ik naar Florida, ben benieuwd naar de ervaringen met fotograferen op NAS Key West en Homestead ARB. Wie heeft daar ervaring mee?
Hoor het graag, alvast enorm bedankt.

Grtsz,

Fighting Mako;s should still be there, with more than enough F-16s after BRAC.
it is also still on the base website:

Apparantly also some weather-aircraft are on base during hurricane season.

Hello all,

sorry for bumping this old topic. In february I will be visiting Florida for a week of family holidays. Of course I will try to escape the family fun a couple of times to do some spotting.
So maybe the topic starter or others can share any recent experiences with spotting at both Homestead and Key West?

Thanks in advance,

Bas

From quite a long time ago....

Homestead was quite open, good. Key West very disappointing, not possible (afaik).

Homestead ARB PRO will like you to talk to them so they can inform security that you're there. Further, the farmers surrounding the base will most probably not like you being there and observe you with a drone (as they did when I was there ;-) ) as they're afraid of someone stealing their crops. And with those farmers being armed, will not make your life easier trying to evade them.

Locations: SW 320th Street (go to the fence for line up shots) and SW 127th Avenue (for landing, see https://www.flickr.com/photos/pietertaris/18300400299/) are the places I was at.

Key West's eastern (Shore Drive) and western (crash gate) final approaches can be visited and seen, it's hard to be in a position to frame them right though. On the south end you can visit the threshold of one of the runways (Boca Chica Road), but views there are limited.

Hi Bas,

Maybe it is possible to write al letter to the co/pr officer of Key West and visit the base.
I was there in 1999 and we (my wife and me) were on base where the first F/A18E and F's of vx9 were on tdy and loads of F16's F14's etc etc.
Compromise is failure.
