Post by Redskin301 »

In this video the last C-160D Transall of the German Air force (Luftwaffe) is seen during its final visit to Eindhoven Air Base in the Netherlands as part of a visit to the EATC. The aircraft came in during some heavy rain showers. The 50+40 is the last operational Transall and is assigned to the last Transall unit in Germany, namely LTG-63 (Lufttransportgeschwader 63). The aircraft has a retro paint scheme and is foreseen with painting which are symbolizing the end of the Transall era in Germany. The name of the plane is “Retro Brummel” which referrers in German language to the characteristic sound produced by the aircraft.

The C-160D Transall will be replaced by the Airbus A400M transport aircraft which are already active in Germany. Next to this the Germans also bought in corporation with the French Air Force a total of sic KC-130J Super Hercules aircraft. These aircraft will be based at the French Evreux Air Base. The flight shown in this video marks the end of the “Brummel” in German service. The type was already retired from service a week earlier and came over for the last time to Eindhoven. Before the retirement of the Transall this particular “Retro Brummel” made a goodbye flight over Germany. The aircraft visited all the major airfields in Germany to say goodbye to the Luftwaffe. Many German enthusiasts came to these airfield all over the country to see the Transall for the last time. Also in the Netherlands a large group of plane spotters came to Eindhoven to see the aircraft for the last time.
