:thx: Mostly 70-200 f4/L, incidentally 300 f4/L IS, on a 40D. I like your pic of J-637 by the way!

Ad, too bad we didn't meet, nice shots

Yes, it's a flame. It had quite a fire going when it was starting its engine, probable due to a rich mixture. It lasted for a couple of seconds until the engine picked-up. Quite spectacular! No, I didn't, I was born in 1970. As indicated, it was scanned from the 312 sqn diaries. I will check the numbers from the original scan tonight.

Nice line-up, I don't mind whether they're covered or not :D .

How about the strange colour scheme of the P-116? I don't think I ever saw a non-camouflaged F-84 in Dutch service? But this one clearly looks like bare metal or so. Nice! Some more bare metal Streaks... From the 312 diaries. http://lh5.ggpht.com/michael.c.deboer/SCtgS9oWNMI/AAAAAAAAE9k/DOCkQ6J1cxo...

Re: some good pld thunderstreak and thunderflash stuff

In my simplicity i thought that towing a Streak was as easy as riding a bicycle , Mickey, although even that can be difficult in today's traffic ! therefore now a serious tribute to the "towing guys" Hans My comment wasn't meant to be patronizing, just giving some background :fadein: ! Great ...

Towing a Streak was very delicate. It didn't have nose-wheel steering and the guy in the cockpit had to steer with the brakes and brake for the tow-truck, or the nose-gear would get damaged. Another way to damage a Streak (or any other a/c with a retractable LG) was landing with the gear up. This Vo...

Re: some good old thunderstreak and thunderflash stuff

Security at Volkel was indeed very tight in the Streak-days and i can remember that i made this photo under rather difficult circumstances in September of 1964 : it proofs also, that 311 squadron Streaks not always flew with only one pylon-tank ! Very true, very interesting. I'll ask my dad about i...

Re: some good old thunderstreak and thunderflash stuff

Let's continue with this nice and tidy one : two Streaks , one asleep but the other one alert ! :?: Hans Hans, I don't think it is on alert, as I think Eindhoven's tasks (CAS and conventional bombing) didn't require QRA. I think Pieter 229 has been pre-flighted already and Pieter 259 hasn't. Lovely...

This picture certainly qualifies for this topic of "Towers", however I'd like to point out that this is not the ATC control tower. It is in fact an abandoned guard tower of the once heavily guarded northeast HAS-area. But, as I said, it IS a "tower", nonetheless. Regards, Stephan Yep, you're...
