Personally I don't have the experience of any kind of softness in whatever zoomregion at all.

Concerning the IS (problems) it has only one mode and not the 1 and 2 mode like the 70-200 or 100-400 lenses. Therefore the IS is not well suited for following and shooting moving objects.

Personally I've got good experiences/results with the 24-105 mm. I use it on a 1DII and a 30D. I prefer using it on the 1D because this one is (and always will) superior to the 30D. 100-400 the story continues...

A lot have been said about the 100-400, about it's pro and cons. What I miss is the aspect of the camera which is used. Allthough you want to have a lens that will be 'perfect under all circumstances' the 100-400 mm seems to be slow when taking 'action shots', when using some kind of cameras. I own ...
