Well, back in the day last November 2015 it wasn't that a bad idea:

But when the shows really started off things indeed became confusing.
Hence it got split up eventually.

On the subject of Istres, I plan to do some stoffer & blikking on Friday heading north from MRS to Montelimar before returning to n/s near Istres. If I had a copilot then a detour into Chateauneuf-du-Pape could be entertained 8) Anyone know if Salon or Orange are likely to be active on Friday? Maybe gliders only due to the fuel strike?

Orange nomally is active on fridays... but don't expect too much. If you catch four flying aircraft you have a 'great' day.

If I catch the gate-guards I´ll be tres joyeux, but with the nearby museum closed for le pause du midi 12-2 that should give me a chance for the morning recovery and the afternoon launch. Or not.

The static list includes the Neuron but it actually flew in formation with a Rafale and Falcon 8X.

Security measures (understandably) very intensive. My car was checked under the hood and with mirrors from the bottom and a total of 3 checks of my camera bag.

In answer to the question on Orange (although it should move to a different topic perhaps): Although runway repairs there are now completed, not all jets have returned yet from their temporary bases (mainly Solenzara and Istres) so flying activity may not be back to normal yet. The 2000B in the static park at Istres (I mean 525, not the B01) for example is not immediately expected back home after the weekend.

Despite the recent claim by the French AF that, going forward, the only deux-milles to be retained are the D and 5F versions, no concrete plans are known with the Ile de France sqn at the moment regarding replacement by the Rafale. This could mean that the OCU role will move to Nancy or Luxeuil eventually and Orange becomes an all-helicopter base, although that is pure speculation for now.

The 2000N will continue to fly from Istres for 2 more years in the nuclear strike role while the sqn works up on the Rafale at St Dizier. As more and more pilots gradually transition to St Dizier, insufficient crews remain at Istres to retain the demonstration capability, which is why Ramex Delta is in its final season (not because of lack of aircraft).

Of note this weekend was that 1 of the Rafales in La Fayette colors is a C model, whereas the expectation was that they would all be duals due to the complexity of the mission.
