Coast Guard Helicopter in Action for Training Rescue a Swimmer. An Agusta Westland AW139 (now Leonardo AW139) of the Italian Coast Guard first chases a boat and then simulate the rescue of a swimmer for training purposes during the Punta Marina Air Show 2019.

The Corps of the Port Captaincies ā€“ Coast Guard is the coast guard of Italy and is part of the Italian Navy with functions connected to the civil use of the sea like commercial and pleasure navigation. Italian Coast Guard emplyes around 11,000 men and women officers, non-commissioned and ranks.
Italian Coast Guardā€™s wide range of activities can count on 300 stations, ships and aircraft. It is carried out throughout 155,000 sq km of Italian waters and 350,000 sq km of controlled waters.
Italian Coast Guardā€™s main tasks include:
- Safety at Sea
- Search and Rescue SAR at sea
- Environment
- Fishing Activities Control
- Administrative Activities
- Marine Police
- Maritime Traffick Monitoring
- Leisure

The AGUSTA WESTLAND AW139 is a medium type helicopter (6 ton class), twin engine, equipped with a rigid five-blade rotor. The turbomotor group is of the Twin Pack P&W PT6C-67C type.
The AW139 can be deployed at all coastal airports of the aerial component of the Italian Coast Guard, it is mainly used for search and rescue, but also for monitoring the activities of merchant traffic, fishing and sea waters.
The crew usually consists of two pilots, an on-board systems operator and a marine rescue specialist.

TECHNICAL DATA:
- OPERATIONAL SPEED: 140 KTS (259 KM / H).
- SERVICE CEILING: 20 000 FT (6560 M).
- RANGE: 668 NM (1237 KM)

The Agusta Westland AW139 version used by the Italian Coast Guard is equipped with a set-up consisting of the following main elements:
- Emergency float kit
- External electrical hoist kit (272 kg / 600 lb) with utility hoist light
- Night-sun search light SX-16
- Cabin bubble window
- Weather radar
- Autopilot 4 axis (additional to standard 3 axis AFCS)
- SAR modes
- NVG compatibility (cockpit & external light)
- TCAS I Honeywell (Bendix King KTA 970)
- FLIR provision / installation
- Self-deployable ELT
