...has more than just the text below...
According to Behörden Spiegel on March 29 2023,
the Bundeswehr would now support an interim solution that would opt for the Bell AH-1Z Viper.

This is a lot cheaper than the Boeing Apache AH-64E,
but it is a thoroughbred attack helicopter and
Bell would have suggested that its production (or assembly?) take place in Germany.

FAZ EXCLUSIVE

US attack helicopters could be built in Germany
PARIS
-UPDATED ON 07/10/2023-17:25

It is still unclear what will replace the Tiger attack helicopter in the Bundeswehr.

The American company Bell Flight is involved in the debate.

So far, however, it is unclear what will take its place in the Bundeswehr .

Will Germany still use manned combat helicopters in the future? And if so, which ones?

Bell Flight is becoming increasingly involved in this debate.

According to information from the FAZ,
the US company has made an offer to the federal government to “relocate the entire production to Germany”
if the Viper combat helicopter manufactured by it is procured.

Despite the decision in favor of an American product, knowledge transfer and value creation in Germany would also be expanded.

According to this, up to two squadrons of around 30 machines each
“as well as the production of every internationally ordered Viper from other nations” are under discussion.

Should the US armed forces also order Viper in the future, they would also be produced in Germany.

The combat helicopter debate picked up speed after Berlin, unlike Paris and Madrid,
decided against the further development of the Tiger -
since the program
"is not considered sensible from an economic point of view",
as the Federal Ministry of Defense announced.

The Tiger is built by the European aerospace group Airbus .

The procurement of smaller H145M helicopters,
which according to the manufacturer Airbus do not offer an equivalent Tiger replacement, is being considered,

from Apache from Boeing – or from Viper from Bell Flight.

The company is convinced of the feasibility of the plan to set up production in Germany in good time.

According to information from the FAZ,
cooperation with a German industrial partner is planned
in order to implement the settlement "quickly within a reasonable period of time".

Rough planning for this was based on around 18 to 24 months.
