Well, I wouldn't actually call it new but ok.
AH/MH-6J: US Army Special Operations variant derived from the MD-530MG.

I suppose it is just another Defender version.

Indeed, sounds a bit like 'old wine in new bags'. (No idea if that expression exists in English though).....First OH-6's were already taken on charge in 1965, and saw combat from 1968 in Vietnam.

Interesting information! Boeing sold there "Civil Helicopter line" to RDM Holding, back in 1999. The sale included also the military variants of the AH-6/MH-90. Only the AH-64 wasnot included in the sale to MD Helicopters.
The Type Certification of the MD-500/600/90x is set on name of MD Helicopters. The Notar technology (patented) is owned by Boeing and leased to MD Helicopters.

To remind you, there is a project going on with an unmanned OH-6 by Boeing.

Boeing and AH-6

In February 2005, just for Lynn Tilton toke over, Boeing bougth the exclusief rights and intellecuatity for the production of the AH-6. Then with the big USArmy order in mind. On October 7th, 2008 Boeing anounched the New Rotor Program: AH-6.
The helicopters will be build by Boeing Rotorcraft Systems facility in Mesa. Just on the same spot as MD Helicopters now....
