Teneriffa South part I

Post by Sargo »

Hello, I´d like to show you the possibilities at TFS. The area in the approch is free but there are valleya and mountains, sometimetimes fences or antennas. It takes a bit of walking to find the right place. Landing shoots with only sky in the background are easy to shoot going with the car without walking, but who wants that at TFS ? I find the background spectacular and beatyful, see yourself and enjoy:

This was only a first impression. I can show many pics more if you wish as TFS was very busy at January when I visited this great airport.

greetings

Great photos Jens! Tenerife seems to be one of the best airports in Europe
Could you tell me something more about Tenerife? How many mm's do you need, do you have heathaze, do you need stairs, how is the police/security towards photographers?
Thanks.

@ Joost

Everything at TFS is very relaxed ! IIn two days I have not even seen any police and at the place where you stand they can not even come to you as you have to walk about 15 minutes into the nature (if you wish that background on the
pics). If landing shoots with very little mountains in the background are ok (like the Air Italy from report part II), you can
drive to the spot with your car. Also there no problems with police ever.

I recommend to go to Tenerife during our winter as there is a fantastic clear light without any haze. In summer I dont know but I think its also ok. The spot is easy to find, leave the highway before the airport (if you come from direction Playa las Americas) and follow the signs to the small city Los Abrigos. In the city leave the first roundabout in direction El Medano.
About 300 meters before the village ends turn left. There you see a school where you have to drive up the hill. Then you pass a gate (which is always open) and you are in the final approch. You easily see where you have to walk now if you want that nice background on your pics. In the village Los Abrigos there are many restaurants at the sea where you can have a break or you find all catering in 2 - 3 supermarkets in Los Abrigos. Everything is easy to find. You don´t need any ledder. If you want to take pics of the departing aircraft on the runway you can climb up a small hill and you have no fence on your pictures. If you wish to spend a pure spotter holiday there is a golf course with some hotels direct in the final approach. I heard that reasonable pics are possible from the hotel and even from the room !!!

Don´t forget that there is another great airport, called Tenerife north, I will show some fantastic pics later !!!

If you have any more questions please ask.

Greetings

It is about 60 kilometers, about 1 hour drive.

@ Edel,

I used the Canon 100 - 400 mm. The 330 was nearly too big bith 100 mm. If you have a smaller lens you can go a bit closer, whatever you wish, maybe something like a 70 - 300 mm would be great.

Greetings

Jens
