Fighter Collection (TFC) News

Post by korenwolf »

Hi all;

I've started this thread to keep all Scramble members up to date on happenings with TFC here at Duxford. First piece of news for 2013 is that P-51C "Princess Elizabeth" 43-25147 (N487FS) will be returning to Duxford for at least two airshow appearances. Firstly the Spring Airshow on May 26th, which will commemorate the 70th anniversary of the arrival of the 78th Fighter Group to the United Kingdom. She will stay on to feature in the Flying Legends show on July 13th and 14th.

More news soon!!

All the best

I The P-51 you mention is not part of TFC. As you will see they do a fourship. Just one plane is operated by TFC.

Correct, the aircraft is not with TFC; as you say; it used to be a part of the collection before being sold in 2006. It will be here as a guest.

No P-40C yet; still looking....

Check who it belongs, and you will know the other aircraft as well. Only the P-47 is based at DX.

Some more news; the P-40B and Spitfire XIV will be appearing at the Oostwold Airshow on May 20th! First time for the Spitfire outside of UK since 2006, so a very special treat for our friends in Holland :nl:

I saw the Spit Mk.14 in Oostwold. Magnificent!
I take the Mk.9 took place for the Curtiss P-40.

Does this mean that P-51 Princess Elizabeth will leave the UK after the Duxford FL airshow? I do not know who owns this Mustang...

313 Tiger...

Maybe you are a subscriber but the following will be revealed in Scramble 409:

It was rumoured before, but it actually happened on 29 April: North American P-51C Mustang 43-25147 (103-26778) ‘Princess Elizabeth’ (N487FS), a former Duxford resident, returned to the famous airfield. This rare, razor-back version of the Mustang, was acquired by The Fighter Collection in 1996. After arriving there as N51PR it was assembled and flown in June 1997. But the condition of the aircraft was considered poor, and a full restoration by Pacific Fighters in Chino was already decided in November 1998. After the restoration, the Princess returned to the UK, making her first flight as G-PSIC on 3 June 2005. Less than two years later, in February 2007, the fighter was sold to Jim Beasley in the USA, as N487FS. It is now back at Duxford to perform as part of the ‘Horsemen’ team during the Spring Air Show and Flying Legends 2013.

Hope this helps??

Maybe not quite on-topic, but in the right topic it is.
How many Spitfires and Mustangs "we" have in Europe?
I was at Duxford, and was kind of surprised by how many there actually were.
Anybody, any clue?
Or where to find it?
