At Ramstein Air Base, Germany, USAFE Media Affairs have stated that all USAFE aircraft have been withdrawn from all public events "throughout the command area of responsibility for the forseeable future". The spokesperson stated that this would likely mean for the whole of 2013 at least. It was confirmed in an e-mailed question that this would include UK RIAT 2013, unless the US budget was amended prior to the planned date, which the source inferred was "unlikely".
I wish to make clear that recent comment questioning the future of the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) - prompted by US Military announcements on budget cuts - is pure speculation.
Along with our parent charity, the RAF Charitable Trust, we value the continued support of the US Military, and we remain grateful to the USAF for handing over RAF Fairford to us to stage RIAT each year.
I am happy to confirm that there is no reason to suggest that RIAT this year will be anything other than a great aviation spectacle; and as before, we will continue to meet the logistical costs incurred by the USAF and MoD at Fairford resulting from our activities.
We will continue to work closely with the USAF, the RAF and air arms across the world to stage what is widely considered to be, the world’s greatest airshow and I look forward to seeing you all here in July.
