Although we will not screen beforehand, we reserve the right to delete any images, especially if clearly unsharp or otherwise low in quality. For more information on how to upload you images, check this post.
In topic titles, please use airfield names in stead of just codes, and be clear about what kind of photos your viewers can expect (e.g. CIV/MIL, location etc.).

Finally, bring any photo criticism understandable and to the point, not cynical or offensive! Simultaneously, do not feel offended by criticism per se, but simply explain your motives, taste et cetera, or ignore if you wish so.

I know, I know, I know......

It's a very cool one ! Unfortunately I have no clue what they call it officially, but I like it anyway. Can you imagine that this bird would have been mass produced ?? :-) I wonder what it was intended to do. Probably some kind of late 50's or early 60's design....

Oops, I would have had that one wrong then... I would have guessed that it was the Hummingbird, but that was the competition.
from Wikipedia:
The Ryan XV-5 Vertifan was a jet powered V/STOL experimental aircraft in the 1960s. The U.S. Army commissioned the Ryan VZ-11RY (which was redesignated as the XV-5 in 1962) in 1961, along with the Lockheed VZ-10 Hummingbird (redesignated as the XV-4).

Too bad you can not consult Wikipedia during the championships... :-) Remember, as you know being a regular competitor, that you have to answer within seconds!

sorry , couldn't help but dreaming away a bit when I saw the pic.. checked the bird out last june; it's still there :-)

Although I do only remember it in Desert colors. Is this picture taken at the Army Museum in Ft. Rucker?

Edit: Ah I see the earlier replies now. I remember it standing next to the XCH-62 at Ft. Rucker when I used to live there. Have they moved and painted it?

Unfortunately we didn't see the XCH anymore no.... (just Mohawk, T-37, Navion, US Army Neptune, T-39, OH-6, Cheyenne, the Ryan and this Boeing 347 were parked outside)

That was a quick one :-)
yup it is the Ryan XV-5B and it was taken in '93 in a compound close to the Fort Rucker museum.
this plane was an V/STOL experimental aircraft in the 1960s
