Ukraine claims 5 jets and one chopper shot down yesterday (28-2). New footage shows 8 Russian choppers approaching over water, one is hit and crashes in the water, the others start to shoot flares. Video claims 2 helos shot down, but I see one (maybe the first one is already splashed when the footage starts, seeing the waves).
Also footages appeared from a burning Il-76 at an Airfield in Rostov. Seems to be the result of an Ukrainian rocket attack, but not confirmed.

One problem is that the places of the downed aircraft and helicopters is difficult to reach and get pictures of.

Around the downed aircraft and helicopters is also hostilities ongoing. It is a war.

I can also see that on helicopters is all markings overpainted. It is difficult to identify the aircraft and helicopter.

Many airplanes are also hit, but can fly back to base.

During the first days one Ukrainan Su-27 was hit over Kiev, and fell in the city.
The aircraft is very fragmented, and difficult to identify. It was shut down by a own Ukrainan Strela-10.

Is this a new counter strike by UKr. or does it refer to the same strike on Millerovo AB that was first posted on 27-2 by HAMMERO.
Some news sites are not clear on the lolcation in more recent reposts. Millerovo is, as they write, indeed in the Rostov area, but there is more than one airfield overthere, and even a few that are closer to the city Rostov a/d Don.

Just read (unofficial) that the fighter aircraft flown by Ukr AF. Col. 1st class Oleksandr Oksanchenko, apparently a well known demo-pilot, was shot down by an anti-aircraft missile. This needs off conformation though. Hammero what have you found on that?

This is the main bases in Russia close to Ukraine.

Earth Google coordinates
Taganrog north. Not far from Rostov. Near Ukrainan border. 47.14.41-38.50.35
Regimental base with 20 Il-76 transport aircraft. One of the Russian transport regiments. Also ARZ (workshop) for Antonov transport aircraft.
Certainly involved in the air landings in Eastern Ukraine. If you have a burning Il-76 with smooke it should be the place.

Taganrog south (near Taganrog north). 47.11.50-38.50.46
Whole time present different versions of A-50 and the A-100. Production or mod of A-50 and A-100.
Also whole time present Tu-95 and Tu-142 Bears. 5 on base. Aircraft during modernization.
Production and operation of Beriev waterbombers.

Rostov north. 47.16.16-39.38.32
Transport regiment for whole Southern OSK (operating forces). All types of transport aircraft and helicopters.
The base also have a helicopter unit for Interior Forces with Mi-8 and Mi-26.
There is also a unit with Mi-8 for border troops. Active in the 2014 crimean operations. Could be involved in Ukrainan war.
Formerly also not long ago operating base of Il-20 intelligence aircraft. I could not find this now. But they should be in area.

Rostov.
Production factory for different helicopters such as Mi-24/Mi-35 and Mi-26.

Millerovo air base. 48.57.14-40.17.53
It is place further north, but close to Ukrainan border.

Yes, it is confirmed as Millerovo. Check these pictures and compare the layout to the Google Earth images.

And it now seems both Poland and Slovakia have also reneged on supplying fighter jets to Ukraine. So no MiG-29s crossing the border...

It was a (new) counterattack by Ukraine. Apparently a Tochka was shot down over Taganrog airbase, and an Il-76 was hit by debris. But that’s rumors, Russia is not too keen about giving info about these incidents

The attacked air base is Taganrog north.

See pictures
https://korrespondent.net/world/russia/ ... l-sotssety

It is civil houses around the base, and landscape is different then Millerovo. Around the Millrovo base there is no puplulated area.

I suppose the Tganarog is placed along the supply road to near Mariapol city on the other side of the border, were it is heavy fighting.

Supplies and soldiers could arrive with transport aircraft to the base, for transport to the battle area.

I had the same information.

It must be the cluster bombs against civilian populated areas yesterday and today in Kharkiv.

We do HAVE info that Taganrog has been targeted at least it was after my remark. ((see the UKR mov. tread in mil av, news))
Such attempts may have been made earlier on.
