This year on 31 July and 1 August, the bi-annual airshow Arctic Thunder was held on Elmendorf AFB in Alaska. The Wednesday before the show, a C-17 from Elmendorf crashed after take-off. You should indeed try the converters from Kenko, these are working on the 80-400mm. I sometimes use the 1.5x.
